NANCY JUST PIPS CAMRA TO 40TH ANNIVERSARY
On March 16th this year CAMRA will have been formed for 40 years but on January 25th this year Nancy Swanick will have been the Landlady of the Peveril of the Peak for 40 years.
The winner of our Autumn Pub of the Season award is the Rising Sun on Queen Street in Manchester City Centre.
The presentation took place on Thursday 21st October. Barrie Sneyd was ready and waiting for the presentation to take place together with David Grant from Moorhouses brewery but where was all of his family. His wife was held up coming home from work, in Dubai and his parents had been despatched to the airport to collect Natalie. They arrived thinking that they had missed the presentation of the first award that Barrie and his team have been presented but for such an important event we waited so that everyone could enjoy the achievement together.
Barrie and his team are very keen on real ale, indeed he has just won his 8 month long battle with Punch Taverns to get a sixth handpump fitted which were sporting the full range of Timothy Taylors beers the last time I visited on yet another Meet the Brewer evening.
The Knott goes one better! Having named The Knott our Pub of the Year for the last two years meaning that the popular Deansgate bar was entered into the Greater Manchester CAMRA Pub of the Year contest where it went head to head with the entries from the other seven CAMRA branches in the region. Last year it lost out to the Crown in Worthington (which went on to make the final four in the national competition.). This year the Knott emerged victorious and has been crowned regional champ.
Cask Champion Award 2010

This first award has been given to the Dunham Massey Brewery and the brewer, John Costello, primarily for spreading the message of cask ale, with an emphasis on traditional North West ales, throughout the local community.
