The CAMRA LocAle Scheme is an accreditation scheme to promote pubs that sell locally-brewed real ale, reducing the number of ‘beer miles’ and supporting local breweries.
The CAMRA LocAle scheme was created in 2007 by CAMRA’s Nottingham branch which wanted to help support the tradition of brewing within Nottinghamshire, following the demise of local brewer Hardys and Handsons. It has since been rolled out across the country via CAMRA’s branch network
The LocAle scheme was first introduced to Trafford & Hulme Branch in 2009. After relatively low profile beginnings, the scheme is in the process of being re-launched in Autumn 2015.
