Your new branch committee

At the Trafford & Hulme Branch Annual General Meeting on 9th October, the branch voted in the committee who will serve the branch for the next 12 months.

Your branch chair remains Paul King, with John O’Donnell as vice-chair. Paul will also serve as Cider Officer while John will also continue to act as Branch Contact.

We are pleased to welcome three new members to the committee for 2014-15.

Altrincham Resident David Wade joins the team as both Webmaster & Social Media Officer, while Tim Field from Sale comes on board as Public Affairs Officer for the Trafford Council Area. Metropolitan University student Bernard Randall is the new Branch Young Members Contact.

The new Treasurer is Andy Jenkinson who will also continue to lead pub campaigning as Pubs Officer.

Committee members who will continue to serve in the same role include Caroline O’Donnell as Secretary, Mark Reeves who maintains our pubs database which feeds WhatPub.com, George Elmslie as Social Secretary and Beverley Gobbett as Clubs Officer.

Following the AGM, three positions remained unfilled.

The vital role of Membership Secretary is vacant, although we are grateful to Jon Gobbett who has agreed to continue to perform the duties in the interim. The Membership Secretary is responsible for promoting CAMRA membership to the public and also for communicating with new and existing members to encourage them to support our campaigns and activities.

The Press & Publicity Officer role involves promoting CAMRA, real ale & pubs via the media and acting as spokesperson for the branch when contacted by media outlets. It is not an onerous role with lots of support and training materials available from CAMRA Headquarters and only requiring occassional activity.

While Tim Field has taken on Public Affairs for Trafford, the equivalent role for Manchester City Council area remains vacant. The role involves monitoring of planning and licensing applications for anything which might represent a threat to pubs (and even occassionally good news about new outlets). Where threats are detected, the Public Affairs Officers co-ordinate getting the branch membership to oppose unwelcome proposals.

If you would like any more details on any of these roles, please contact Paul on chair (at) thcamra.org.uk or Caroline on secretary (at) thcamra.org.uk who can provide full role descriptions and any advice or support needed.

The branch would like to thank John Muldoon, Nick Earle and Neil Worthington who have stood down from committee positions. All have given great service to the branch with Neil in particular having served the branch for very many years holding many positions from Chair downwards over his time on the committee.

Contact details for all the committee members can be found on the “Contacts” page.
