Pub Of The Year

The Pub Of The Year award is presented annually to a pub or bar which in the opinion of the membership “ticks all the boxes”. It should ideally offer a range of quality real ales, including speciality styles like dark beers; offer good real cider and perry; and offer at least one LocAle. A branch pub of the year should be a community pub that provides events and services for the local community. The pub should have a strong identity and personality that will often reflect the tastes of the licensee. The pub should exude a sense of welcome and the experience of your visit should leave you wanting to return.

The pub or bar should be the one the branch feels is the very best overall in our area as the Pub Of The Year shall be put forward by the branch for entry into the Greater Manchester Regional round of the CAMRA National Pub Of The Year award where it will be judged on quality of cask ale (and cider); atmosphere; décor; customer service; welcome; value for money; customer mix.

While hype rages about the “Craft Beer Revolution” and the press raves about specialist beer bars, the City Arms is testament to the enduring popularity of a well run traditional pub. The pub is nestled away on Kennedy Street, a quiet narrow back street which runs parallel to Princess Street, one of Manchester’s busiest streets. Despite being so close to Albert Square and the heart of the city, once inside you could forget you are in the city and imagine yourself in a lively suburban local, the kind of which there are sadly fewer and fewer of these days.

Pub Of The Year 2012 – Costello’s

Although Costello’s only opened in December 2010, with friendly staff and good service from the outset, it has quickly become a firm favourite with Altrincham locals and CAMRA members near and far alike. It was voted branch Pub Of The Season for Summer 2011 and was also voted Champion Mild Pub of Manchester by participants in the 2011 Mild Magic Trail.

Marble Beer House collects Pub Of The Year certificate

Pub Of The Year PresentationMarble Beer House (Manchester Road, Chorlton) was presented with their richly deserved Pub Of The Year award on Wednesday 8th June.

Around 30 local CAMRA members joined regulars to see the award presented by branch Chair Beverley Gobbett. Beverley told the audience that Marble Beer House has been highly rated by the branch ever since first opening 13 years ago. It has been featured in every single edition of The Good Beer Guide that it has been eligible for and regularly rates in the top 5 local pubs by members beer quality scores entered into CAMRA's National Beer Scoring System.

The Knott goes one better!  Having named The Knott our Pub of the Year for the last two years meaning that the popular Deansgate bar was entered into the Greater Manchester CAMRA Pub of the Year contest where it went head to head with the entries from the other seven CAMRA branches in the region. Last year it lost out to the Crown in Worthington (which went on to make the final four in the national competition.). This year the Knott emerged victorious and has been crowned regional champ.
